Robert Cole, Director, Sustainable Business and Communities at EEM, presented to the Green Marine GreenTech 2012 Conference in Quebec City on May 29th, 2012. His talk focused on community engagement practices to manage conflicts of use between port/terminal facilities and their residential neighbours. Conflicts of use can occur when the activities of an industrial facility impact upon surrounding communities. Examples include dust, noise, light and air pollution. Robert’s presentation outlined a focused approach to community relations that manages conflict of use, builds win-win relationships with local communities and optimizes the use of the internal resources of a port facility.
