Infrastructure and transportation, Canada Safety risk assessment in highway infrastructure construction and maintenance
Summary
EEM was selected to guide the early development of a safety programme for a federal agency mandated with care and maintenance of highway infrastructures.
Approach and Solution
The work aimed to provide the agency with a safety programme for its staff complement of 60 administrative and technical personnel, but which would include guidance on managing multimillion dollar contracts with third parties who perform work on the infrastructures. We conducted a safety risk assessment, worked with a law firm to establish clear rules on safety due diligence in contract management and assisted the organization in building capacity to embed safety in their core business practices.
Results
We provided the safety management framework which the organization is now using to build out the programme.
