Mining and metals, Canada ISO 14001:2015 gap analysis at a diamond exploration company
Summary
The release of the new international standard ISO 14001:2015 for environmental management systems led a diamond exploration company to hire EEM to conduct a gap analysis of their environmental management system to the new standard – a technique used to determine the steps to be taken to move from a current state to a desired future state – to identify the actions to be taken to close the gaps.
Approach and Solution
EEM used a structured methodology to conduct interviews and a thorough review of the client documents, organizational structure and business activities with respect to the requirements of ISO 14001:2015 in order to identify potential gaps. Identified gaps were recorded in an action plan with an outline of the corrective measures that would be necessary to meet the requirements of the new version of the international standard.
Results
The gap analysis was well received by the organization and will be considered in developing an action plan to certify the company under the new standard.
